My first trip below the equator, in 1999, was also my first real go at travel photography. I bought my first “serious” camera in a shop in New York City – a used Chinon semi-auto SLR – and learned to use it on the fly, during a six-month sojourn through the nether continent. All of these shot on film, both monochrome and color.
