New Orleans is a city of death and decay as much as it is a center of magic and muse. It is perhaps because of this decrepit, haunted charm–and not in spite of it–that makes the Crescent City such a mesmerizing feast of the senses.
This gargantuan defense complex, situated in a quaint corner of the city and facing the Mississippi River, was abandoned shortly after Hurricane Katrina. It’s existence since that time has been complicated and controversial, and it’s presence a neighborhood nuisance and eyesore. I should know. I live right across the street.
